Edinger Pump Station Replacement

Home >> Construction >> Edinger Pump Station Replacement

Project Description

This project will replace an aging pump station with a new one at the corner of Edinger Avenue and Graham Street in the City of Huntington Beach. The project includes the construction of a new pump station with underground pumps and well, and an aboveground electrical building. New dual force mains and gravity sewers will also be in construction.

The station will collect wastewater flows from communities throughout Huntington Beach spanning a service area of approximately 1,500 acres.

The new pump stations will have increased capacity to provide operational sustainability and reduce the risk of a spill during heavy rain conditions.

Project Background

The original Edinger Pump Station, constructed in 1965, is located completely underground, making the pumps and operating equipment difficult to access. The station does not comply with current standards, as it was built under outdated seismic codes, and the electrical and control equipment do not meet current safety requirements. Presently, maintenance activities on Edinger Avenue necessitate sidewalk and lane closures, impacting pedestrians and traffic. Once the new facility is complete, the original station will be removed.

Status:

The project is currently in the design phase. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2027 and last approximately 2 years.
