FAQ
OC San only accepts applications submitted online. Please review our website at careers for a complete listing of available positions. Before you can apply for a job with OC San, you must first create an applicant account with a username and password. OC San’s online application system is user friendly, and the most effective way to stay informed regarding available positions.
The minimum requirements for a position can be found directly on the job announcement, and on the classification compensation. You should review each announcement carefully, noting the minimum qualification requirements, description of job duties, and any other special requirements. The Supplemental Questions, which can be found on the third tab of each job announcement page, address the minimum and desired qualifications of the position. Taking the time to thoroughly review each announcement and class specification will help you avoid applying for jobs that may not interest you, or for which you may not qualify.
When a position becomes available, the Orange County Sanitation District will post the job announcement on our jobs page at careers. The announcement will contain the salary range, information on the position, the application and selection process, examples of duties and essential qualifications, including education, experience and applicable licenses and certificates. For certain positions, OC San may also advertise available positions in industry trade publications or online job boards.
When this deadline-free approach is indicated on the job announcement, it means that the position will close without notice once a sufficient number of applications from qualified individuals have been received, as deemed by the Orange County Sanitation District.
No. Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of an online employment application.
The supplemental questionnaire focuses on the key responsibilities of the position for which you are applying, and allows you to elaborate on your previous experience in areas of particular relevance to the job. Do not simply state "See Resume" when asked to describe your responsibilities and experience. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of information you provide on the application itself. No. You must submit a separate application for each position in which you are interested in applying. Your application is evaluated on how well your education, training and experience match the needs of the position for which you are applying. The online application system allows you to save an application you have created, and make modifications as needed, in order to apply for other job opportunities in the future.
For step-by-step instructions on how to complete a job application, please review the online employment application guide.
You will receive an e-mail notification stating that your application has been received by OC San. You should save the e-mail in the event that there are any issues with submission of your application. Each application received is given careful review and consideration. Recruitments that generate a large volume of applicants may take longer to process. Due to the volume of applications that are received, most general correspondence will come in the form of an e-mail notifying applicants of the next step in the process and/or dismissal from further consideration.
You should update your online applicant account immediately and notify OC San by emailing jobs@ocsan.gov. If we are unable to contact you because you have moved or changed your phone number without our knowledge, your name may be withdrawn from further consideration. The Orange County Sanitation District will not be responsible for updating online applicant accounts.
The steps of the recruitment and selection process vary depending on the position, and may consist of, but may not be limited to, any or all of the following components: written exam, practical skills assessment, and/or panel interview.
Generally, applicants will receive an e-mail notification regarding their test results. If you have successfully passed the written or practical exam (where applicable); you may be invited to the next phase of the recruitment and selection process.
Generally, the interview is conducted in a panel format. Often the panelists will come from different departments, and/or outside agencies. During your interview, you will be asked several questions to help the panelists understand your qualifications as they relate to the position.
The Orange County Sanitation District offers a range of benefits, which are subject to change whenever applicable collective bargaining agreements, laws, rules, policies or plan documents are revised (usually annually).
