Cypress Trunk Sewer

Crews are hard at work keeping construction on track on the Cypress Trunk Sewer Project. And now, we’re getting ready to start work in the City of Los Alamitos later this month. This work is a big step toward keeping the regional sewer system reliable, running smoothly, and ready for the future.

Current Work – City of Cypress

Location: Intersection of Moody St. and Lincoln Ave. in the City of Cypress

A bypass system is currently in place to reroute sewer flow and maintain service while manhole rehabilitation is in place. A mix of day and night work is needed to complete this phase.

When: Ongoing until the end of November*

Hours: Monday–Friday

  • Day: 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
  • Night: 8:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m.

What to Expect:

  • Reduced lanes on Moody St. between Camp St. and New York Ave.
  • Left turns from northbound Moody St. onto Lincoln Ave. will be restricted—follow all posted signs
  • Thru traffic will remain open in all directions
  • Permanent traffic control will remain in place until work is completed
  • Crosswalks may be closed intermittently
  • Increased activity, dust, and noise levels

Location: Moving south on Denni St./Lexington Dr., between Ball Rd. and Katella Ave. (see map below).

Work will take place during low-flow hours at night and include pipe inspection, cleaning, and grouting.

  • Hours: Sunday-Friday, 8:00 p.m.-6:00 a.m.
  • Impacts: 
    • Reduced traffic lanes
    • Temporary traffic control while work is being performed
    • Increased activity, dust, and noise levels

Upcoming Work – City of Los Alamitos 

Construction crews will soon arrive in the City of Los Alamitos to begin preparation work for the Cypress Trunk Sewer Project. Daytime activities will include measuring manholes, followed by nighttime pipe cleaning and grouting. Night work is expected to begin in December and continue for about one month. Additional details will be shared as the start date approaches. This preparatory work is an important step toward upcoming sewer rehabilitation efforts in Los Alamitos.

Location: Along the project route in the City of Los Alamitos. Specific work locations will be shared as the start date approaches.

When: Monday, November 24 – Wednesday, November 26*

Hours: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Project Description:

The regional sewer line in the cities of Cypress, Los Alamitos, and La Palma is approximately 50 years old and in need of upgrades. The Cypress Trunk Sewer Project will focus on enhancing about 7 miles of sewer, replacing portions of the pipe with larger diameter pipe to increase the capacity, or rehabilitating other segments of pipe to extend the life of the sewer system. Approximately 100 manholes will also be replaced and/or rehabilitated. These repairs will extend the life of the sewer pipes by another 50 years.

Schedule:
Construction is anticipated to begin in Summer 2025 and last approximately 3 years.
