Heal the Bay released their 2021-2022 Beach Report Card and it has us doing a little happy dance! For the second year in a row, Orange County beaches top the Honor Roll list. To be on the Honor Roll beaches need to receive an A+ for all four seasons (summer dry, winter dry, wet weather). Beaches in the OC San service area to receive this honor are:
  • Corona Del Mar
  • Huntington City Beach, at 17th Street
  • Bolsa Chica Reserve, at Flood Gates
  • Surfside Beach, at Sea Way
  • Crystal Cove

Being on the honor roll is attributed to OC San’s treatment process and the extensive Ocean Monitoring Program, Urban Runoff,  and Source Control efforts.

Statewide, 94 percent of over 500 beaches surveyed along 840 miles of coast earned an A or B in summer months which is great news for California. In Orange County, Summer Dry Grades were excellent and just above the five-year average with 99 percent of the beaches receiving A and B grades. Winter Dry Grades were stellar with 95 percent of the beaches receiving A and B grades. During the Wet Weather, grades were above average with 66 percent of Orange County beaches receiving A and B grades.
