North of PCH
Crews continue to work along the northbound shoulder of Newport Boulevard. Some of the work includes manhole construction, removing k-rail and installing a guardrail, and paving. Construction activities will continue through January 2019.
South of PCH
Around-the-clock activities are currently taking place through approximately November 30. The equipment shown in the photo below is used to insert a new liner within the existing sewer pipeline. Once the liner has been inserted, it is filled with water that is heated to cure the resin-coated liner. Once properly cured, the liner turns rigid, becoming the new pipe within the existing pipe. This method minimizes the amount of digging in the streets. Read more about this method of sewer rehabilitation called cured-in-place pipe.
Residents should expect construction-related equipment and noises such as trucks, water boilers, and generators during this work. Lights will need to be used during nighttime hours.
Short Street will remain closed at Newport Boulevard until December 7.
Thank you for your continued patience during the construction of this important project.
